Bedtime Story Time at the Library
Right before Christmas, Mason attended his first story time at the library. As soon as I heard that there was going to be an event for kids that WASN'T at 10 am, I marked it on the calendar and counted down the days. As I've mentioned before, the total and complete lack of evening and weekend stuff to do with babies and toddlers is one of my biggest pet peeves. So story time, by a fireplace, right before bed? Sounded great to me!
Mason joined seven other kids in their pajamas and slippers and sat in my lap and enjoyed several books, including Don't Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late and Llama Llama Red Pajama, which he sat nicely for, other than occasionally pointing out a Christmas tree ornament that had fallen from the tree. The other kids sat on pillows or curled up with blankets, but Mason, being the youngest, wasn't quite ready for that much independence. The shyness worked in my favor because as soon as he was comfortable, he took off to look at magazines and totally missed the third story. I managed to reel him back in and we finished up with The Night Before Christmas.
After story time, the kids posed in front of the tree and the librarian took a picture for the paper. That little cutie next to Mason in the green? Is his second cousin!
After the pictures, most of the kids enjoyed juice and cookies and Mason went and hugged a giant bear that he found. Then all the kids, hopped up on juice and cookies, ran around the library like crazy and had a great time burning off some energy and playing together.
At one point, there was a three way collision and Mason took the brunt of it, being a good foot shorter than all the other kids (and 1-2 years younger) and he went flying. The great part about being somewhere with all moms, someone immediately scooped him up and handed him to me and someone else went and got that big bear to distract him. Soon he was all good to go, but the collision left a HUGE bruise that you probably saw the remainder of in his holiday season pictures.
We got home, iced his face, and Mason happily went right to sleep. Despite the mishap, I'm super excited that the library says they are hoping to have another evening story time soon - Mason and I will be there!
